The scenes are heating up in SBS' Suspicious Partner and so are the scenes between lead stars Ji Chang Wook and Nam Ji Hyun. Fans of the show who have been hooked to the series because of the strong chemistry between the two leads are already waiting with bated breath to see what happens to the characters as the story unfolds.
Based on a report by Soompi, some romantic tension is slowly becoming felt in Suspicious Partner Episode 16 when Nam Ji Hyun's character Bong Hee, was discreetly followed by Ji Chang Wook's character Ji Wook as she takes a call from Chan Ho, played by Jin Joo Hyung. Prompted by jealousy Ji Wook scolds her for her actions which he later apologizes for when they reach her house.

The memorable Suspicious Partner scene ends with a kiss. However, what got the fans attention was that the kissing scene featured no background music. Unlike other previous kiss scenes, this enabled viewers to concentrate fully on the pure chemistry and rapport between the two actors.

SBS also released some behind the scenes footage for the Suspicious Partner episode which showed Ji Chang Wook and Nam Ji Hyun conferring with director Park Seon Ho as they prepared for the scene. The actors were shown as they practiced their lines and did a few trial kisses for the actual scene.
Ji Chang Wook has earlier expressed excitement about starring in a romantic comedy like Suspicious Partner which comes as a welcome break from his string of action roles from Healer and The K2. The actor also starred in his first film role in Fabricated City before starring in the SBS drama.
Ji Chang Wook is reportedly planning to enlist after filming Suspicious Partner. The romantic comedy stars Healer star Ji Chang-wook and Love in the Moonlight star Kim Yoo-jung and centers on the love story between Choi Dae-hyun [Chang-wook], a convenience store manager and Jung Saet-byul [Yoo-jung], a part-time employee. Backstreet Rookie also stars Han Sun-hwa as Yoo Yeon-joo, Dae-hyun's girlfriend and Do Sang-woo as Jo Seung-joon, the convenience store owner's son.
In an interview with Soompi, Chang-wook spoke about how it's his first time working with Yoo-jung and that he's comfortably communicating with her like a friend while having fun filming with his co-star. The 32-year-old actor teased that there are many incidents in Backstreet Rookie that take occur before Dae-hyun and Saet-Byul start to trust each other. It’s a very bright and warm comedy. It will portray the affection and love between people who meet in a convenience store. I think it’s a drama of laughter, empathy, and communication. You’ll be able to enjoy it as you wrap up the week, Chang-wook added.

On the other hand, Yoo-jung gushed about her chemistry with Chang-wook, sharing with Soompi, Choi Dae-hyun is someone who makes Jung Saet-byul more active. They get along well like friends. Maybe that’s why we were able to naturally portray the pleasant and fun atmosphere.

The two male actors are similar in many ways. They both have an impressive following of female fans, and they both decided to enlist in the army after their respective dramas with Nam Ji Hyun. Seo In Guk enlisted in March but was exempted from his duty after a medical reexamination diagnosed him with osteochondral lesions, and Ji Chang Wook will be enlisting on August 14 as an active-duty soldier.
Regarding this coincidence, Nam Ji Hyun said, It’s mysterious and surprising. After Seo In Guk, Ji Chang Wook is also enlisting after a project [with me]. It’s too surprising to be a coincidence.”

She continued, “On the last day of our shooting [for ‘Suspicious Partner’], Ji Chang Wook’s enlistment date was announced. The staff members made fun of him (laughs). At our wrap party we said we would go visit him at his army base, and he said ‘None of you should come.’ I’m going to ask him once again if he means it (laughs).

She then talked about the similarities between Seo In Guk and Ji Chang Wook, saying, “Both actors are considerate and playful. Thanks to that, we were able to quickly become close, ” and compared, “Ji Chang Wook has deep and glittering eyes. He’s optimized for romance. Through “Suspicious Partner, ” Nam Ji Hyun shed her image as a child actor and pulled off a mature romance. Thankfully, many people seem to see me as an adult [and not a child actor]. I think I’ve achieved my goal, so I’m proud and thankful.”

She also shared some interesting facts about the romantic scenes in the drama. She said, “The lines and atmosphere immediately before the romantic scenes are created fully through emotions. But the romantic scenes themselves are quite technical. We have to concentrate because the scene has to be shot in the most visually pleasing angle. That’s why it’s unexpectedly tiring, both mentally and physically.”

At the end of the interview, she said, “From now on, I will continue to show new sides to myself based on my previous experience. In my twenties, I will try to show as many different sides to myself as I can. I’m not sure what my next project will be yet.”
